Second Moment of Halo Occupation Number

چکیده

The halo approach to large scale structure provides a physically motivated model to understand clustering properties of galaxies. An important aspect of the halo model involves a description on how galaxies populate dark matter halos or what is now called the halo occupation distribution. We discuss a way in which clustering information, especially in the non-linear regime, can be used to determine moments of this halo occupation number. We invert the non-linear part of the real space power spectrum from the PSCz survey to determine the second moment of the halo occupation distribution in a model independent manner. The precise measurement of higher order correlations can eventually be used to determine successive higher order moments of this distribution.

Quasar-Galaxy and Galaxy-Galaxy Cross-Correlations: Model Predictions with Realistic Galaxies

Several measurements of QSO-galaxy correlations have reported signals much larger than predictions of magnification by large-scale structure. We find that changes by a factor of 2-10 in the expected signal arise naturally on arcminute scales if the galaxy distribution is modeled realistically, as opposed to a linearly biased version of the mass distribution. Thus the resolution of the measured ...

The Dark Side of the Halo Occupation Distribution

We analyze the halo occupation distribution (HOD) and two-point correlation function of galaxy-size dark matter halos using high-resolution dissipationless simulations of the concordance flat ΛCDM model. The halo samples include both the host halos and the subhalos, distinct gravitationally-bound halos within the virialized regions of larger host systems. We find that the HOD, the probability d...

Dark matter halo occupation: environment and clustering

We use a large dark matter simulation of a cold dark matter ( CDM) model to investigate the clustering and environmental dependence of the number of substructures in a halo. Focusing on redshift z = 1, we find that the halo occupation distribution is sensitive at the tens of per cent level to the surrounding density and to a lesser extent to asymmetry of the surrounding density distribution. We...

Notices of the R . A . S . Halo occupation numbers and galaxy bias

We propose a heuristic model that displays the main features of realistic theories for galaxy bias. We first show that the low-order clustering statistics of the dark-matter distribution depend almost entirely on the locations and density profiles of dark-matter haloes. The quasilinear mass correlations are in fact reproduced well by a model of independent randomly-placed haloes. A hypothetical...

The impact of halo shapes on the bispectrum in cosmology

We use the triaxial halo model formalism of Smith & Watts (2005) to investigate the impact of dark matter halo shapes on the cosmological bispectrum. Analytic expressions for the dark matter distribution are derived and subsequently evaluated through numerical integration. Two models for the ellipsoidal halo profiles are considered: a toy model designed to isolate the effects of halo shape on t...
